Halifax Leaked My Financial Information... (Again)

Regular readers might recall that a year and a half ago, Halifax sent a letter about my credit card addressed to other people at my address (instead of to me).

This was the letter I received 18 months ago, sharing (a) the fact that I have a Halifax credit card, (b) its credit limit, and (c) the last four digits of its number with Ruth and JTA, neither of whom are associated with my credit card.

After I wrote to them, they (eventually) phoned me to tell me that the problem had been fixed. It was a computer problem, they said. It related to the fact that the two people it was addressed to did share a different kind of account with me (a mortgage). They'd fixed the problem, they said. It wouldn't happen again, they said.

Well, it happened again.

I suppose I should be thankful that they didn't leak my credit limit this time. Just (again) that I have a card with them, that it's expiring, the last four digits of it, and the last four digits of its replacement. Y'know, just the kinds of things somebody might need to convincingly impersonate my bank in a call to me!

So in summary:

  • Halifax wanted to tell me about my personal credit card, for which I'm the only cardholder,
  • To tell me that it's being replaced, and
  • Including the last four digits of both the old and new cards,
  • But they sent all of that... to the wrong people (causing them some concern and confusion, at first!),
  • Despite the fact that they promised 18 months ago that they wouldn't do this again.

For fuck's sake, Halifax. Get your shit together.
