Regular blog events I've participated in, now or previously, include:
#100DaysToOffload
Invented by Kev Quirk, 100 Days To Offload is an annual challenge to write 100 blog posts in a year. The challenge is open to interpretation in a variety of different ways, but my rule has always been "100 posts on 100 different days in a given calendar year". I've been hugely successful at it, and it sort-of fills a "challenge gap" for me that Bloganuary (below) never did.
- I completed it for the seventh consecutive year in April 2026, with the additional self-imposed challenge that I'd post on each of the first hundred days of the year (thereby reaching the achievement on the earliest possible day of 2026)
- I completed it for the sixth consecutive year in March 2025
- I completed it for the fifth consecutive year in April 2024, or in July if you don't count my geocache logs as "posts" (I do!)
- Because I hadn't discovered it yet, my completions for the four previous years of the challenge were achieved retroactively, with the blessing of its creator:
- I have an automatically-generated table in my blog stats that shows my progress each year; this shows several other years, prior to the invention of the challenge, where I achieved a hundred posts in the year
Bleptember
In September, I try to post a daily photo of my dog with her tongue sticking out. It's moderately easy because she's like that a lot. All of the photos are linked from a central page.
I forgot to do it in September 2026.
Weird Web October
Weird Web October is an annual challenge to make a "weird" website or page for each day of October, to a thematic prompt. I've never even attempted to manage this for every day in October, but I've sometimes targetted specific themes of interest:
Bloganuary
An annual tradition promoted by my former employer Automattic until 2024, in which each day of January has a themed writing prompt and bloggers are encouraged to write a post every day. I took part in 2024 in advance of a planned effort to "take over" running of the event the subsequent year, but ended up being made redundant before I had the chance.
In February 2022 I observed that my blogging frequency often took a dip in the winter and considered doing Bloganuary in a subsequent year, and then...
