I seem to have come into posession of a couple of haggises (or “haggii”, as I prefer). Would any of you Geek Night regulars like to join Claire and I a little earlier this evening for a haggis supper before we get down to the board games? A vegetarian alternative can be arranged for, if required.
If you don’t know if you like haggis or not, it’s also the perfect oppertunity to find out (and I can make sure there’s a backup option in place in case it turns out you don’t). All Geek Night regulars welcome – just drop me a text or leave a comment in advance so I know who to expect. Food at 6; board games from 7.
Is the haggis store bought or butcher bought? I’d much prefer store bought (but have never tried butcher, not that keen on trusting a welsh butcher to make a scottish dish). I’d also like to council you to a massive NO on the vegetarian haggis: I see it as understandable when a dish made of many ingredients is made vegetarian (e.g. lasagne) but am baffled when blatant meat products are so…degraded (such as vegetarian bacon, haggis or [and I’m not sure if this one exists] black pudding).
I’d love to join you guys for haggis. Personally I love to have haggis with mashed potatoe and baked beans. Did you have any plans for things to accompany the haggis?
Store-bought, I’m afraid. Getting a Welsh butcher to make haggis seems to be impossible, so I get any butcher-made haggii brought down by our friends up North.
No; I don’t like even the idea of veggie-haggis. The “vegetarian alternative” I speak of is likely to be a simple but satisfying pasta dish of some variety that won’t be out of place alongside the other stuff we’ll be eating.
Accompaniments? I was planning of tatties & neaps, and parsnips. But in the absence of parsnips (damn you, Safeway [part of the Morrisons family], there’s likely to be some other veg in there, instead. But hey, tatties & neaps rocks.
Hello, I’m not a geeknight regular, having, in fact, never been. But can I come? Pretty please? I won’t be an awkward veggie, I’ll just eat, um, vegetables. Only if that’s ok though.
