Fail to get elected as one of the two student representatives of module CS12320 (Concepts In Programming). What else could I expect? I was nominated against my will, gave an awe-inspiring speech, that declared that “if I get this position, I’ll slaughter every last one of you with a pick-axe” brought up the issue that “hell – I’m not even representative of myself; why do you want me to represent you lot?”, and made clear “I want this role as little as you want me to have it!”. I think they got the idea. I recieved a grand total of 0 votes, and that includes the ones from the people who nominated me (who, after hearing my speech, voted for somebody else). Victory

Climb a nearby hill with the intention of finding a forest that you’ve heard is on the other side. Fail. Check maps to verify that the forest is there, and climb the hill again, looking for the forest. Fail. Check the maps, get somebody who’s been there already, and set off looking for them once more. Fail. Where in smeg’s name are the Cwm Woods??? How have they managed to evade me on three occassions, when I’ve had maps and experience on my side! Who knows? Who cares?

Recieve an e-mail criticising the way you send your e-mails. It appears to be from some big-headed student, who thinks they know it all (which they can’t, ‘cos then they’d know that I already knew that they didn’t know <sigh>, which is slightly self-defeating). Set them straight with a well-placed flame, and bite them by e-mail. Later, while filing their e-mail, check their signature, and realise that you’ve just accidently flamed the President of the Students Union!!! AARRGGGHHHHH!

Actually make use of the sowing kit that your mother insisted that you took to University with you. The zip detatched from my jeans. Comments welcome as to how I may have achieved this, but they won’t be verified!!! <G> Also: buy a poppy and lose it among the stuff on your desk.

(1) Recieve an e-mail from your Personal Tutor, asking to see you in his office in ten minutes. He knows I check my e-mail 1440 times a day, but dragging me to this level of nerdity is ridiculous…
(2) …make it to his office, cross campus, within eight minutes of him sending the e-mail… Okay – so I *live* in my anorak. I don’t care. =o( I’m going to go and sit in the corner and sulk now.

Raid a skip outside the computer labs, filled to the brim with semi-defunct equipment. Steal several cables, some dumb-terminal keyboards, and a PSU (which was funtional, but later caught fire). Spend much of the remainder of the afternoon taking broken monitors from it and throwing them from great distances into the skip again, just ’cause you want to see if you can make them implode and blow a hole in the side of the skip. Fail. Spend much of the evening trying to get an old 8086 your flatmate pulled from it to work. Succeed… to a degree… it just doesn’t *do* much!

Cool Thing Of The Day

Go into Burger King, and ask for an nuclear-powered intercontinental ballistic duck-burger, with medium fries and a Sprite. Get rather upset when they refuse to serve a nuclear-powered intercontinental ballistic duck-burger. Ask them what kind of establishment they are, anyway, that doesn’t serve nuclear-powered intercontinental ballistic duck-burgers. Ask for a complaints form. Half way through filling it in (and when the staff are thoroughly scared and/or confused), ask them what you asked for. When they reply, look embarrassed and apologise, and say that you meant a Double Whopper. Shuffle away sheepishly with your burger.
The whole affair would have been a lot less fun if I hadn’t had my floormate in there with me, trying desperatley to work out whether I was doing it as a joke or had actually (finally) lost my marbles.

Consider a Pot Noodle to be an adequate substitute for breakfast, after you discover that your bread has been stolen and your milk supports more cultures than the United Nations.

Go on a tour of the lesser-spotted pubs. End up in a club. Finish drinking at 1am. Still have a hangover twelve hours later. Still have a headache twenty hours later. Realise to your horror that there are a lot of ‘black spots’ in your mind about that night. Realise with even more shock, the following afternoon, that, with alcohol still streaming round your viens, a lecture with John Basterfield is actually interesting. Wonder if this is normal.

Pass your first exam… with a worldsmashing score of 90%. Your lecturer, apparantly, during a pre-test, scored 95%. The pass level was 36%. Happy bunny? You bet!

Gather together a werewolf and an irishwoman, and, together, climb an unlit hill with a treachorous unmarked cliff, in an unfamiliar nearby town, in the darkness of the night, during a storm, and watch fireworks while clinging to a hundred-year-old momument to save yourself from being sucked over a 140ft precipice over a wave-smashed beach. Fail to find the ‘fort’ which the maps clearly state is right by the monument. Cause excess concern in the natives in a nearby pub upon your return: “You weren’t up the hill tonight, were you?” Smile. Nod. Sup your beer.

Escape from your hall’s “Punch Party”, and go to a bonfire instead, because you *know* that if you start drinking vast amounts of free sub-cocktail you’ll just *keep* drinking and you’ve got to be up before 9:00am the following morning to continue running a Nightline training session.

(1) What with being excessivley busy, and a network failure last weekend, fail to get out a “Cool Things”. Feel the need to apologise to everybody (SORRY!), and give them three “Cool Things” to help make up for it.
(2) Be elected Communications Officer for a confidential telephone listening and advice service.
(3) Take your first exam. Gulp. Still – 20 questions, and only 36% required to pass. From the results of people in my class who’ve done it earlier this week, marks range from 30% –> 80%. Remain confident. My result is out on Monday.

Go out and get pissed with the second years from your floor. Bloody hell, those guys can drink about (originally read “drinkabout”) four times their weight in lager. As a result I’m probably going to have to (originally read “tpo”) proofread this several times before sending it. I’m having difficulty sitting up straight in my chair. Bloody hell
