I’m not getting enough work done today.

I’m not getting enough work done today.
Claire drove me to work this morning. We had a fascinating discussion on the way, on Cyberethics Of Artificial Intelligence Slavery. Cool.
This morning I gave a tour of the office to our new interviewee, Phil, who for some reason I keep trying to call Chris. If he gets the job, he’ll be working full-time as an industry year student when I become a part-timer again later this month.
Now I have to go get some work done…
Look what I found while I was wasting time on the ‘net this morning.
I kid you not – there’s a web site dedicated to the pathetic motorways of the United Kingdom, with reasons why they’ve been nominated as pathetic, photographs, maps, and the history of each road. Perhaps the oddest site you’ll see all day.
A week of no more than 5½ hours sleep a night led me to caffeination as an aid to get any work done, this week. It’s kept me awake to work, but has made me feel weird and unwell, and last night, OD‘d, had me get excessively paranoid and curl up into a crying lump on Claire.
Caffeine is not good for me.
Want to see something quite terrifying: DHTML Lemmings. I kid you not – this is scary shit, particularly when you realise that it’s all being done client-side, using script, over the web: no Flash, no Applets, no ActiveX <spits> – just pure unadulterated CSS and JavaScript. I got scared.
It’s contagious! I have a dull ache in my head and a mild nausea.
<fights on>
Seen Andy’s journal entry about goats and game-shows? I’d want the goat. No, really. Goats are cool.
I’m not getting enough work done. However, I did find an interesting web site called My Pole. Make sure you look at the “The History” section. Weird world.
<tugs at chains> <continues rowing>
This story about the European Space Agency by the BBC reads:
…The Mars Exploration Rovers will touch down in January next year, just after the Europeans arrive with their Marx Express mission in December…
Marx Express? I suppose we should have guessed that the so-called ‘red planet’ was communist.
I’m I’ll Kill You If You Don’t Come Back. Excellent.
“When you fall, you fall hard. Maybe you get a bit obsessive. Maybe you get a bit homicidal, even. But you’ve got a rockin’ melody and a beat you can dance to.”
A must-read! An excellently-written and concise article in dot.life about the falling sales of CDs being blamed on file-swappers, playing devil’s advocate. Go read it, people!
This report by the BBC, published yesterday, gives evidence that we science/engineering graduates live longer than our artsy opposite numbers. Made my day.
Yawny morning.
Got to sleep eventually. Basically, my friend’s problems can’t be solved by anybody but themselves. I’m going to offer to be there, be supportive, and to help them in any way they can, but in the end, what’s troubling them can’t be solved by anybody else. Will try to get a chance to speak to them later today.
For now, however, I have a deadline to wage war with.
